Use Piano Brag Tags To Help Students Stick With Lessons

My daughter loves hockey, and she loves collecting hockey cards. Her cousin loves video games, and he loves collecting Pokemon cards. So naturally, they both love piano brag tags too!

I suppose, at the end of the day, kids just love collecting things. That would explain why my daughter also has a collection of rocks that are shaped like smartphones.

And if my daughter is motivated to collect smartphone rocks, I know that your piano students will be motivated to collect something much more useful: our Very Useful Piano Brag Tags.

Brag Tags are printable trading cards, like hockey cards or Pokemon cards.

But they are way more useful because they are filled with positive praise for a musical job well done.

In today’s post, we’re sharing a set of Very Useful Brag Tags that will give your kids the boost they need to put a little extra effort into their piano lessons.

We’ll also dig a little deeper into the connection between Brag Tags and growth mindset, and how growth mindset helps students try just that little bit harder.

Piano Brag Tags to help develop a musical growth mindset

What Is A Musical Growth Mindset?

In its simplest form, developing a musical growth mindset in piano students is all about helping them see that their abilities will improve as they challenge themselves, and then practice to overcome these challenges.

It seems obvious, right? Many people assume kids already make the connection between practice and results.

But the fact is, many don’t. Many piano students, and parents, believe that people are either born with or without musical talent.

And this is a dangerous mindset for piano teachers running a business.

How can a student possibly stick with piano lessons if he thinks he was born without the “musical gene”?

Any motivation to improve is lost when a piano student sees no clear path to success.

How Can Piano Brag Tags Help?

Growth Mindset is a heavy topic, and heavy topics make my head hurt.

I like to keep things simple.

As teachers, all we really need to do is to find meaningful ways to reward our students when they overcome a challenge.

We don’t want to simply say, “You played that piece well today.”

Instead, we want to say, “I know that piece was tricky, but you kept practicing and your hard work paid off!”

Our Very Useful Brag Tags are a wonderful way to provide this meaningful praise.

Pair Our Brag Tags With These Books

Our Very Useful Piano Brag Tags are available at the bottom of the post, but first…

While the Brag Tags we are sharing today can be used as standalone resources, they work wonders when paired with books from Andrea And Trevor Dow’s Very Useful Piano Library.

With another year of piano lessons upon us, it might be time to put a little excitement into the resources you use with titles like The Rainbow Salad Songbook, Chillin’ On The Black Keys, and Muttzart And Ratmaninoff In Eine Kleine Feline.

You can click on a cover below to learn about some of these exciting titles or click here to check them all out in the WunderKeys Bookstore.

Today we are sharing a seat of nine Very Useful Brag Tags. Print several copies of the resource, cut out the cards, laminate them for durability, and then distribute them to your students for a job well done. To help students keep their collection together, punch a hole in the top of each card so they can hang from a ring loop.

The phrases on the cards contain simple growth mindset language. Upon sharing cards with students, it is important that you highlight specific examples of their efforts that led them to earn the Brag Tags.
