An Adorable Finger Number Game For Your Newest Students

Every year, teachers welcome new students into their studios. And, chances are, most of them will be adorable primer kiddos.

For a very first foray into piano lessons, it is important that these students get an introduction to just how fun lessons can be.

This means, that in addition to an exploration of the piano, finishing the first lesson off with a game is a must!

In today’s post, we are sharing Land Ahoy, a primer finger number game that corresponds with lesson 1 and lesson 2 from WunderKeys Primer Piano Book One.

How To Play Land Ahoy

To begin, follow the download instructions at the bottom of the post. After downloading the game you will receive a file with the required playing cards (and these instructions too!)

  1. The student and teacher each begin with a game board, a game marker, and 7 coins. Each game board should have one game marker over the black circle and one coin over each submarine. The cards should be shuffled and placed between the game boards.
  2. The student removes the top card from the deck and flips it over to reveal a hand with a marked finger. The student examines her game board and removes a coin from a submarine that is displaying the corresponding finger number. Note: During future turns, if the coin has already been removed, the player’s turn is over.
  3. Next, the teacher repeats Step 2.
  4. Players alternate turns until one player has removed all of the coins from her game board. At this point, the player slides her game marker along the path and to the characters playing on the beach, hereby winning the game.
  5. If all cards have been removed from the deck before a player wins the game, the cards are shuffled again and play continues.
