When the recital is over, teachers usually ask the classic question:
“How do you think it went?”
Which, of course, often gets the classic answer:
“Good.”
Very helpful. Very detailed. Very emotionally rich. 😉
That’s why we created our Would You Rather Recital Reflection printable.
It is a simple activity that helps students share what they actually think and feel after a performance.
At first glance, some of the questions may look like pre-recital questions. But after the recital, they become something even better. They become “knowing what you know now” questions.
Knowing what they know now, would students rather play for 10 people they know or 100 people they don’t know?
Knowing what they know now, would they rather forget one note and keep going or play perfectly but forget to bow?
Instead of asking students to explain their entire recital experience from scratch, this printable gives them eight fun choices to check off.
Their answers are quick. But they tell you a lot.

The questions on today’s printable are light, funny, and low-pressure, but they still open the door to meaningful conversations about nerves, confidence, preparation, stage presence, memory slips, audience size, and performance expectations.
You may discover who is secretly brave, who is terrified of bowing, who would rather perform for strangers, and who thinks one wrong note is basically a musical emergency.
And that is the magic of a good recital reflection activity.
It helps students feel seen. It helps teachers understand what is happening underneath the performance smile. And it gives everyone a reason to end recital season with a little laughter.

It’s Time To Grab Our Note Reading Workbooks
Summer break has a funny way of turning confident little note readers into kids who suddenly stare at the staff like they’ve never seen it before 😉
Andrea and Trevor Dow’s Timed Note Reading Tests For Piano: Book 1 delivers short, focused note-reading drills that are easy to assign and even easier for students to complete over the summer months.
It’s the kind of workbook that keeps note reading fresh without making kids feel like they’re doing piles of homework during their break.
Structured enough to build real fluency, but light enough to keep motivation high, this resource helps students return to lessons ready to play instead of needing weeks of review.
