Use This Primer Printable To Reinforce Understanding Of Dynamic Markings

Dynamics rarely get the attention they deserve. Too often, young piano students believe that the perfect performance involves playing the correct keys in the correct order for the correct number of beats. And while this is important, we need to teach our students that playing with expression is equally important.

A robotic performance pales in comparison to a performance filled with emotion.

But, before your students can effectively incorporate dynamics into their music, they must be able to: 1) aurally differentiate between soft sounds and loud sounds 2) recognize and correctly label soft sounds and loud sounds with forte and piano markings and 3) develop the coordination that is necessary to play soft sounds and loud sounds on the piano.

The printable we’re sharing today provides the perfect introduction to your students’ journey into expressive playing. This works well as a standalone activity but also pairs well with WunderKeys Primer Book 1, Lesson 8.
