New Piano Game Alert: Meet the Gator in Staccato Swamp

If your students need a fun and effective way to practice listening for staccato and legato, we’ve got just the game.

It’s called Staccato Swamp, and it turns articulation recognition into a silly race through a murky, musical marsh.

This one-player, off-the-bench board game is a hit with kids who love a challenge—and a great way to sneak some serious listening skills into your lesson time.

But this game isn’t just for fun—it’s also your sneak peek at what’s coming next week… a brand-new Very Useful Piano Library book that sends your students on a time-traveling piano adventure.

Staccato Swamp: Listening For Staccato and Legato

Staccato Swamp is a one-player, off-the-bench board game where students listen to musical excerpts (played by you!), flip the correct articulation card, and follow silly directions that move an alligator across the game board.

It’s a playful way to reinforce listening for staccato and legato, and a great tool for supporting articulation development in young pianists.

Even better? It was designed to coordinate with our upcoming Level 1 piano book release—making it the perfect warm-up activity for the weeks ahead.

Coming Soon: Later Gator and the Time Travel Tunes

Next week, we’re unveiling Later Gator and the Time Travel Tunes—a hilarious, heartwarming, and pedagogically-packed piano book for Level 1 students.

When a lonely alligator stumbles upon a mysterious duck, he’s launched on a journey through time and space, with music that reinforces:

  • C 5-finger scales
  • Staccato and legato playing
  • Hands-together coordination
  • Introductory LH accompaniments

If your students love story-based learning, quirky characters, and big musical payoffs, this one’s going to be a hit.
