Hip Hop Robot Composing For Level 1 Piano Students

With spring break just around the corner, many of you may not see your piano students for a week or two.

In a perfect world, your students will practice diligently every day. But we all know that the likelihood of that happening is slim 🙂

If you want to make sure your kids make time for the piano during spring break, it is a good idea to send them home with a project.

In today’s post, we’re sharing a Hip Hop Robot Composing Activity that level 1 students can work on while they are away from your studio.

The Benefits Of Composing Projects For Piano Students

It is tough to get piano students to practice during holidays and breaks. While daily practice schedules work well when children and families are in regular routines, the same schedules can fall apart during spring break.

For this reason, it can be very beneficial to focus spring break piano practice around projects, rather than daily minutes.

When students have tasks to complete before they return to lessons, they can work their practice schedules around the various disruptions that happen during spring break.

For example, this March we’re taking our daughter to a three-day hockey tournament. Needless to say, there will not be a piano available at the arena 🙂

Rather than stressing about missed minutes of daily practice, a piano project provides a task-oriented goal (rather than a time-oriented goal) that she will be happy to complete when we return home.

At the bottom of today’s post, you can download our Hip Hop Robot Composing activity. While it won’t keep your students busy for the entire spring break, it can be one of several projects your students can complete.
