“Is ‘Rameau’ the name of a Baroque composer… or a soft, creamy cheese best served with crackers?”
It’s a valid question. One that your students will be asking (while laughing) over and over again as they play this delightfully ridiculous funny music history game.
Introducing Fantastic Composer Or Fancy Cheese, a printable guessing game where everyone learns something… whether it’s music history, cheese facts, or the surprising truth that Rameau also sounds suspiciously snackable.
Last week’s “Funny But False” composer game was so well received, we knew we had to create another silly, smile-inducing activity that keeps the music history fun rolling.

How This Funny Music History Game Works:
Fantastic Composer or Fancy Cheese is music history dressed up as total silliness. As your students guess, flip, and giggle, they’ll get familiar with the names of famous composers they’ll eventually meet in their sheet music—and pick up a few cheese names along the way. (Because obviously that’s a life skill.)
To begin:
- Print the deck of Fantastic Composer Or Fancy Cheese cards.
- Take turns picking a card and reading the name and cheesy description aloud.
- Note: Even when the name is a real composer, the description underneath is written like it’s describing a fancy cheese—just to make guessing trickier (and funnier).
- Guess: “Composer… or cheese?”
- Flip the card to reveal the answer.
- Keep going until someone wins… or until everyone is laughing too hard to care.
On the surface, today’s printable feels like nothing more than a silly guessing game about cheese and composers (which, to be fair… it is). But underneath the laughter, something magical happens: students start recognizing the names of famous composers—names they’ll eventually spot on their sheet music, recital programs, and music history quizzes.
And here’s the sneakiest part of all: the “cheese descriptions” under the real composer names aren’t random. They secretly reflect the style, mood, or personality of each composer’s music.
It’s the perfect mix of ridiculous and relevant. It breaks the ice, boosts engagement, and fills your lesson with laughter—while sneakily building music history knowledge in a way normal flashcards never could.
