“I have students traveling from towns an hour away just to take WunderKeys.”
It is tough to grow a piano studio when you live in a small town. It is even tougher when that small town already has its fill of piano teachers. Emma Cullen knows this all too well.
“There were at least 6 or 7 other well-known piano teachers so my own lessons were slow to take off at first.”
Faced with a saturated market, Emma went to work at a supermarket while teaching piano lessons on the side. To put her Bachelor’s Degree in Piano to good use, Emma knew she had to think outside the box if she wanted to break into an already crowded market of piano teachers.
Emma had been reluctant to take on students who were younger than six.
“I was looking for something different that no other teachers in the town were offering. I came across WunderKeys in an internet search for preschool piano lessons and decided to give it a try.”
In the past, Emma had been reluctant to take on students who were younger than six. That quickly changed. “WunderKeys seemed perfect for those people who had been asking about starting their 3 year olds.”
Emma recognized right away that the many varied activities provided by the WunderKeys Method Books meant that a young piano student would not get bored during a 30-minute lesson. “I liked the way it had an easy to follow lesson plan and so many different activities.”
Students were traveling from towns an hour away just to take WunderKeys.
By tapping into a group of students that other teachers were not already teaching, Emma’s studio started to grow… in surprising ways!
“Not only was I getting students from my hometown looking for lessons but I had a few students traveling from towns an hour away just to take the WunderKeys lessons.”
Emma’s lessons didn’t disappoint.
“Every child that did WunderKeys loved it.”
Her kids were thriving. “What struck me was that the children who followed the course came out knowing the basic notes and note values better than the older students.”
And her kids were inspired…
“Every child that did WunderKeys loved it.” In fact, kids loved it so much that when they graduated from the program they “refused to go to any other teacher for lessons because they loved WunderKeys so much.”
These days, Emma applies the WunderKeys approach and philosophy with ALL of her students… young and old. “WunderKeys changed the way I teach. All the students I’ve had go through the WunderKeys programme have loved it and nearly all of them have stayed on to do piano exams with me.
