A Saturday Sight-Reading Solo For Elementary Students

Sight reading really is the most under-appreciated piano lesson activity. And I believe it could be because of piano exams.

Now, I’m not hating on piano exams; some teachers are fans and others are not.

But I think we can all agree that the sight reading experience during a piano exam is something that, at one time or another, has terrified each and every one of us!

So, Trevor and I love to share activities that put a friendly face on sight reading. If you teach your students to love sight reading, they will become unstoppable piano players.

Today we have composed a pop-flavored elementary level 2 piano solo for your students with a pick-a-path sight reading section embedded right into the piece.

Pick-A-Path Sight Reading is one of the many technical exercises and activities included in WunderKeys Elementary Piano Lesson Book 2A.

This approach to sight reading was pioneered by WunderKeys. Why does it work? Because every time your student plays through the sight reading activity it’s different! This means they are *truly* sight reading each and every time and are therefore internalizing those important strategies over and over again.

In today’s printable we’ve taken this technique and incorporated it into a piano solo so your kids can have a blast becoming strong note readers with every new tune they create.
