Dads have a special gift. They can turn any moment into a joke.
A grocery store lineup. A car ride. A quiet family dinner. Nothing is safe.
So, this week, we decided to put Dad’s questionable comedy skills to work in piano practice.
Today’s printable is The Dad Joke Practice Challenge, a silly Father’s Day piano practice activity where students read musical Dad jokes, watch Dad react, and then use his laughs, groans, grins, and smirks to decide how long they need to practice.
It is part joke sheet, part practice tracker, and part “Dad, you have one job.”
And because June piano practice can feel a little wobbly, this printable gives families a quick reason to sit down, laugh together, and still get some music done.

The Dad Joke Practice Challenge begins with a 20-minute practice tracker and a page of musical Dad jokes.
Students read each joke to Dad. Every time Dad laughs, grins, groans, or smirks, students cross off one minute on the tracker.
After all of the jokes have been read, students look at the tracker. Any minutes left uncrossed become their required practice time for the day.
So if Dad gives in and groans at eight jokes, the student practices twelve minutes. If Dad holds strong, the student practices longer. Either way, Dad becomes part of the practice plan.
This printable works well during the week of Father’s Day because it makes home practice feel less like homework and more like a family moment. It gives students a reason to include Dad, adds a little humor to June lessons, and helps teachers send home something that feels timely, useful, and fun.
The printable is available at the bottom of the post but first…
