A Summer Piano Practice Tracker: Snap Up This Printable

If you only send one printable home with your piano students during the break, make it today’s summer piano practice tracker.

You don’t have to get overly complicated when motivating kids to practice. Something as simple as a daily coloring activity to correspond with home practice will encourage students to pull out their piano books.

We have shared many Color-It Practice Trackers with great success in the past. You can check them all out in the Growing With WunderKeys Toolkit.

Today we’re adding to the collection with a Beach Day Practice Tracker that is perfect for the summer season.

Why Summer Piano Practice Trackers Work

Working toward a goal is highly motivating. Our Color-It Practice Trackers provide a framework to track and achieve the goal of regular piano practice.

Today’s Beach Day Practice Tracker is meant to inspire over 40 days of piano practice.

This simple goal is easy to attain once your students have something to commit towards. In this case, playing piano daily, completing the Color-it Practice Tracker, and receiving a prize for their efforts.

By using coloring as the tracking tool, your students create a clear representation of their progress toward the practice goal. This provides additional motivation and aids in commitment toward the goal.

How To Use Piano Practice Trackers

To begin, give each student our Beach Day Practice Tracker (the download is available below). Instruct them to color in two squares for each day of piano practice. When coloring the numbered squares the students must consult the legend at the bottom of the printable. The squares do not need to be completed in any order.

When each square has been colored and the mystery picture has been revealed, your students will have completed over 40 days of piano practice.

To reward them for their efforts and to provide additional motivation, we recommend giving a prize to students who return to lessons with a completed summer piano practice tracker.

To correspond with the beach theme of today’s tracker, you may want to offer an ice cream treat, a pair of sunglasses, or an inflatable beach ball as a prize.

Before You Download Today’s Resource

Coloring is a very motivating activity for students. We like to use it for more than just practice trackers. Coloring is a wonderful tool for reinforcing note reading too. In fact, in every piano book in Andrea and Trevor Dow’s Very Useful Piano Library we include a Color-it Note Reading Activity as one of the many supplementary activities found in these books.
