Some kids love note reading exercises. They get giddy when given the chance to test their speed on timed tests.
For other kids, note reading just stresses them out 🙂
Often this stress comes from past experiences with note reading that were less than enjoyable. To rid these experiences from their memories we need to retrain their brains to see note reading as a pleasant activity.
And what is more pleasant than coloring. An entire coloring industry has been built around helping people chill out.
In today’s post, we are sharing an Easter Color-it Note Reading activity. Using their note reading knowledge and some crayons, kids will have a blast revealing the mystery picture.

Our Easter Color-It Note Reading Activity is available at the bottom of today’s post, but first…
Trevor and I have one goal: to keep kids enjoying piano lessons for as long as possible. It drives us crazy when something as simple as note reading frustrates kids to the point of quitting.
Learning to read notes on the staff is really quite simple; it requires a splash of teaching, a dash of novel exercises, and a whole lot of repetition.
We are confident that you have the teaching part covered, and we have always shared a ton of note reading games to create novel learning experiences.
But repetition… that is the final ingredient.
To GET note reading, piano students need practice, practice, practice! But it doesn’t need to be tedious. Students can master note reading by dedicating just a few minutes a day to note reading repetition.
And that’s what we’re giving you in Andrea and Trevor Dow’s Timed Note Reading Tests For Piano, Book 1: 90 Days Of Exercises In Middle C Position And C Position.
