When it comes to primer piano activities, music history rarely makes an appearance.
The first priority when teaching little kids is to get them to make music. And this takes a ton of time and effort.
But if like me, you feel guilty about ignoring history with your little music makers, then today’s activity that uses almost no lesson time will put your mind at ease!
With our Music History Hamsterbucks, your primer piano students can begin a very simple exploration of historical music composers.
And the best part… the Hamsterbucks are themed to correlate with our newest primer piano book:

Today’s primer piano music history printable is available at the bottom of today’s post, but first…
On Tuesday we released the primer piano book, Hildegard Needs A Happy Tune, V. U. Level E.
Like all of the resources in Andrea and Trevor Dow’s Very Useful Piano Library, this book has an engaging, laugh-out-loud storyline.
And it is this story-based approach that is the secret sauce in these incredible resources.
The biggest challenge a piano teacher faces is encouraging students to practice consistently.
Because the songs in Hildegard Needs A Happy Tune tell the story of a loveable hamster’s quest, kids are desperate to keep playing and see how the story unfolds.
When piano students play from any book in Andrea and Trevor Dow’s Very Useful Piano Library problems with piano practice are a thing of the past.

How To Use Our Music History Hamsterbucks
A Music History Hamsterbuck is a piano studio reward that can be used to “purchase” little toys or trinkets from a studio store.
The Music History Hamsterbucks have simple music history questions on the back. Each week, your piano student takes home one hamsterbuck, researches the question, and records her answer on the back.
When she returns to lessons the following week, she presents you with her hamsterbuck. If she has answered the question correctly, her hamsterbuck is stored in a ziplock baggy with your student’s name on it.
As her hamsterbuck stash grows each week, your student can choose to use the money to purchase a little treat from your studio store.
When printing the hamsterbucks, be sure to print the file double-sided.
