A basketball player spends hours working on three-point shots, free throws, or lay-ups. In fact, basketball players spend way more time working on skills than they do playing games.
This is not the case with piano students.
More often than not, the only thing piano students work on at home is their repertoire.
Repertoire-only home practice can lead to slow progress, and slow progress can lead to the end of piano lessons.
What students should be including, in addition to repertoire practice, is daily technical exercises.
