If you want to turn your primer piano students into note readers who just “get it”, then you need to find multiple ways to engage their brains.
Timed tests will improve their fluency. Games will keep them motivated. Sight-reading will teach them to think on the fly.
And then there are Note Reading Sorts. Note Reading Sorts are interactive activities that engage higher-level thinking skills. Piano students don’t just have to name notes, they have to think about notes.
And this thinking, considering, and sorting, commits those notes to memory.

Most importantly, kids who no longer struggle with note reading enjoy making music on the piano!
