A Printable Set Of Note Reading Clip Cards For Primer Piano Students

Andrea and I love to create hands-on resources that teach note reading. Kids spend so much time on the piano bench during lessons, that any chance to get off and learn in a unique way is a breath of fresh air for kids and teachers.

In the world of kindergarten teachers, clip cards are a very popular activity for teaching letters and numbers. As it turns out, they also work really, really well for teaching note reading!

In today’s post, we’re sharing a full set of printable clip cards for primer students, along with instructions on how to make them work for your kiddos.

Reinforcing Primer Note Reading With Clip Cards

Often the simplest activities are the most educational, and this is the case with clip cards.

To use this activity with your primer piano students you will need to download, print, and then cut out our note reading clip cards (download instructions at the end of this post). The set includes notes from Bass C to G above Middle C. With your deck of clip cards, you will then need to get some clothespins or other similar clipping devices.

When your materials are all ready, sit at a table or on the floor with your primer piano student and hand her the deck of clip cards and 12 clothespins. Instruct your student to pick up the first card, examine the note name held by the WunderKeys character and then clip the clothespin over the matching note on the staff.

And that’s it! After completing the first card, your student can continue with the rest of the deck.

Our clip cards are a wonderful supplement for teachers using the WunderKeys Primer Piano Method books. Primer Book 1 is available on Amazon here, Primer Book 2 is available on Amazon here, and Primer Book 3 is available on Amazon here.
