As all piano teachers know, primer piano students cannot sit still for 30 minutes. And now that they are stuck at home without their usual outlets to burn energy, it is more important than ever to get your little piano kids off the bench!
This doesn’t mean your piano lessons have to look like a three-ring circus. It simply means that your lesson activities should switch between repertoire performed at the piano, games played at a table or on the floor, and rhythm exercises completed while up and moving.
To help you plan for this lesson structure, we are sharing a printable activity that reinforces note reading and can be performed at a table or on the floor.
Last month we shared note reading puzzles for primer piano students and they were a huge hit with teachers and their kids.
Today we’re taking an even more creative approach to note reading puzzles and sharing printable note reading trains.
Note Reading Trains For Primer Piano Students
Today’s printable pack of note reading trains contains activities that are leveled for students working in WunderKeys Primer Piano Book 1, WunderKeys Primer Piano Book 2, and WunderKeys Primer Piano Book 3.
To begin, download the Note Reading Trains printables (see below), choose a set, print and cut out the train and train cars, mix up the pieces, and then ask your student to connect the train cars to the train.
To correctly connect the train cars, students must match up the note name on one car with the correct note image on another car. To see how it works, look at the image below. Notice how the note name on one puzzle piece matches the note image on the next puzzle piece.
